White Fawn Lilies (Erythronium Oregonum)

Posted by Sandy McRuer on February 2nd, 2009

Only February and already I am thinking about spring! We’ve had an almost eastern Canadian winter here. There is still snow all over the place on the ground here. But despite getting a couple of centimeters of snow the night before last, the snow is melting. Yay!
These beautiful lilies grow in abundance at Stamp Falls in the Alberni Valley. The peak show is mid-April.

And it is a terrific time to visit this part of Vancouver Island. The snow still caps all the mountains, but in the valleys spring is busting out vigorously. The Salmonberry flowers are all out, and with them come the hummingbirds. They time thier arrival to coincide with the opening of the salmonberry. Other birds are arriving as well as the winter birds are leaving. I find spring so exciting!

Hello,

This time last year we snapped a photo of a bird we have never seen around Skutz Falls (Cowichan River). Perhaps you or someone you know could identify it for us.

Sure!
You could send me a picture, or upload it somewhere and tell me where to look. I’m sure I could tell you what it is.
