Rainbird has an Exclusive Deal with the Brant Wildlife Festival
The premier wildlife festival on Vancouver Island, the Brant Festival begins in the Parksville this Saturday. And Rainbird Excursions is in the thick of it. Rainbird is the only tour company invited to participate. This is because of its reputation for integrity when presenting ecological information to the public. Rainbird presents all the facts available and does not try to “spin” the information. You get reliable, creditable information.
This 16-year-old festival is getting back to its roots after having gone through some difficult times recently. The supporting agency, the Mid-island Wildlife Watch Society had run out of funding and volunteers to support the Festival. So the society was dissolved and the assets were transferred to The Nature Trust of British Columbia. So now, the 2007 Brant Wildlife Festival is being coordinated by The Nature Trust of British Columbia in association with the Canadian Wildlife Service, the BC Ministry of Environment and Ducks Unlimited Canada. We would also like to thank the Habitat Conservation Trust Fund for providing assistance through the Wildlife Viewing Network.
This year the festival stretches over the entire month of March. This is the time when the Brant, a small dark sea-goose arrive and rest up during their migration to their breeding grounds in Alaska. It coincides with the spawning of the herring. As a result the entire Straight of Georgia, the straight between Vancouver Island and the mainland of British Columbia, comes alive with birds and marine animals. Besides the Brant, there are huge flocks of gulls, diving ducks, loons, alcids, cormorants etc. It is a true spectacle!
Rainbird will be providing the transportation and assist with the guiding for two of the events. The Herring Spawn tour takes place at Parksville Bay at 10 AM on Thursday March 10, 2007. This is where the spectacle I mentioned earlier is laid out before you and explained by your guides. And, at the end of the month, the Striking a Balance takes place at Pacific Shores Resort in Parksville on 13 March. This tour focuses on striking a balance between the forces of development and the need to maintain the biological diversity on which we all depend.
