Heli-logging in the Nimpkish

Apart from the profligate use of fossil fuels, it leaves way more waste on the ground than from conventional logging. And therefore makes it extremely difficult to plant trees through the slash. So reforestation success is uncertain depending largely on natural regeneration.

Although foresters say the land the trees comes from is part of the working forest, it is unlikely that there will be fuel for helicopter logging this area again when the trees are big enough 80 years from now. So essentially this type of logging is over-cutting.
