Alberni Valley Outdoor Club Hiking Schedule 2009

Posted by Sandy McRuer on May 30th, 2009

The Alberni Valley is an exceptional place to hike. I’ve said that before. However most of the routes and trails are known only to a few local people. Here’s your chance to join some locals on one of their hikes.

The club has only three rules. This is the third one, “Non-members are welcome to try out Club trips. Guests are, however, expected to become members after two trips.” So if you are passing through on your way to or from Tofino, Ucluelet or anywhere else on the Pacific Rim contact a club member to join them.

How do I do that?

Download the schedule! Here it is 2009-avoc-trip-schedule . At the end of it is a list of contact emails, a difficulty legend for the hikes, and a statement to say that hikes are done at your own risk. Duh!

They call the hikes are mostly fairly strenuous. But remember that the crowd that goes on them are almost all over 50 years old. So they are moderately strenouous for a moderately fit middle aged person. However, proper footwear, that is, hiking boots or at least, hiking runners, is essential. Also bring lots of water, and tell someone where you are going and when you will be back.
