A Cous Creek Hike

Posted by Sandy McRuer on August 22nd, 2006

I got a thank you message today from a young couple who went to the Cous Creek estuary with me earlier in the month. I guess they just got back home to Florida. They said they really enjoyed the hike and would be glad to give a testimonial.

Don’t they look great together?

In case you are wondering where the Cous Creek estuary is, it’s about 6 km, or 3.5 mi down the inlet from Port Alberni. The hike is a little unusual in that starting from the trail-head, we hike downward. It’s quite steep in places, but there are great views of Port Alberni on the way down, and it is almost entirely through old growth forest. In the spring the flowers on the estuary are spectacular! And in the fall it’s a great place to see bears fishing at the mouth of the creek. The hike up takes longer but you can do the entire excursion in about 5 hours at a leisurely pace.

Here’s a few photos from a hike we did earlier this year

Please design larger images as I don’t know anything about this estuary and the images are too small to help in any meaningful way.
Thanks!
